A new report shows that the more we get tested for COVID-19, the more we keep it out of classrooms.

“Face masks and proactive testing are projected to substantially mitigate spread,” says the report from the UT Austin Modeling Consortium.
Why it matters: Testing allows us to find asymptomatic students or staff who may be spreading the virus without knowing it — it’s a big part of our approach to keeping schools safe.
Where to get tested: Most pharmacies offer both rapid antigen and non-rapid PCR tests. Austin Public Health also offers free tests throughout the city, and we have free rapid tests on our campuses.

Yes, but: On-campus testing is for symptomatic students and staff only. If you can, getting a free COVID-19 test through Austin Public Health or another community partner is the best way to go.
