Ƭapp Students to Join Jumpstart’s Read for the Record to Raise Awareness about the Importance of Early Education
Austin, TX—Ƭapp School District (AISD) Superintendent Meria Carstarphen joined students at Casis Elementary reading a favorite story book during Jumpstart’s Read for the Record on October 6, 2011. AISD joined children and adults across the country to set two new reading records – for the largest shared reading experience and, for the first time this year, the largest digital reading experience – as part of the nationwide early education awareness campaign that focuses national attention on the importance of reading.
Presented in partnership with the Pearson Foundation, Jumpstart’s Read for the Record campaign shares the love of reading with millions of children and families while calling attention to the importance of early education. To date, more than seven million people nationwide have joined their local Read for the Record reading celebrations. The Pearson Foundation donated a copy of the official Read for the Record book, Llama Llama Red Pajama by Anna Dewdney, to each Pre-K and Kindergarten class in Ƭapp.
“This is a wonderful opportunity to get our students, at the earliest age, excited about reading,” said Carstarphen. “Ƭapp is dedicated to working with each of our students to teach them the importance of reading.”
