First day of school now Sept. 8 with four weeks of remote learning
The ¼öƬapp Board of Trustees has approved an updated calendar, changing the first day of school to Sept. 8, at its Aug. 6 Special Voting Meeting.
The new calendar will begin with four weeks of remote learning and an opportunity for on-campus instruction for students who do not have access to reliable technology or internet connectivity.
The Board also approved a waiver submission to the Texas Education Agency that, if granted, would serve as a period where students who selected on-campus instruction may return to on-campus learning in phased-in smaller groups.
There will be adjustments to staff work calendars as part of the updated calendar, specifically adjustments to start and end dates for some employees. Key points to consider include the following items:
- Employee's compensation will not be reduced and employees will continue to receive their regularly scheduled pay.The number of scheduled workdays for all employees will not be reduced.
- Classified staff will begin or continue their work calendar as originally scheduled.
- Some classified staff will work additional days at the end of the year and will be compensated for those days.
- The teacher work calendar will contain the same number of 187 contract days; work calendars for teachers and other non-classified employees may be adjusted to ensure that the number of workdays are not increased and campuses are supported until the end of the school year.
