Beginning the week of Oct. 5, ¼öƬapp will transition from daily to weekly curbside meal service. This change is in response to community feedback, providing a more efficient and convenient meal pick-up option for families.
Through Dec. 18, meals from curbside meal sites are free for any child under 19, or those over the age of 19 who are utilizing special education resources or currently enrolled in school to complete the requirements for a high school diploma. ¼öƬapp will serve free breakfast and lunch in the classroom for on-campus learners.
Each Thursday, starting Oct. 8, curbside meal sites will provide the components for seven breakfast and seven lunch meals at more than 40 locations throughout Austin. Meal sites will expand to a longer service time. To provide more options for families, six schools will serve meals earlier in the morning and five schools will serve later in the day.
To prepare for this service change, families will receive additional meals on Friday, Oct. 2. On this day, curbside meal sites will provide six meal packs for each child, to provide food access through the weekend and when sites are closed Oct. 5-7.
Meals feature foods that are prepared by staff in ¼öƬapp kitchens. The foods included with curbside meal bulk meals are chilled and served cold to be taken home and reheated. Reheating instructions will be included. The healthy meals include protein, grains, fresh fruits, vegetables and milk.
